The 67th Annual NCAAHPERD-SM Convention will be held at the Benton Convention Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on October 29-31, 2015. The theme for this year's convention is "No One Left Out." From the Mountains to the Piedmont and the Coastal Plains too…by working together we are simply the best! With one of the largest memberships in the country, North Carolina AAHPERD-SM provides a unique opportunity to renew and refresh your teaching methods and professional outlook.
The convention will have a new format with sessions on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. On Thursday night we will hold our third Annual Casino Night and dance and Friday we will have our annual Awards Luncheon.
The Benton Convention Center is located in heart of Winston-Salem. A colorful palette that blends together an eclectic mix of people, places, and things. The Benton Convention Center adjoined to the Embassy Suites Winston-Salem and the Winston-Salem Marriott is connected to the Benton Convention Center via a tunnel. Just around the corner is the avant-garde arts district with shops, galleries, restaurants and bars each with their own personality.
This year's Bill Russell Memorial Keynote is Dan Gould from Michigan State University. Dan Gould is director of the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports and a professor of kinesiology at Michigan State University. He earned his Bachelors of Science at State University of New York College at Brockport, 1973. A year later attained his Masters at the University of Washington. In 1978 Gould acquired his Doctors at the University of Illinois. His area of expertise is mental training for athletic competition and sport psychology. His research interests include the stress-athletic performance relationship, psychological foundations of coaching, athlete motivation, youth leadership and positive youth development through sport. Gould has been a consultant for the U.S. Olympic Committee, USA Wrestling, the United States Tennis Association, and for numerous athletes of all ages and skill levels. In 1986, Gould was named USA Wrestling Man of the Year (for Sport Science work), and became president of Sport Psychology Academy, American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. He is a fellow of Association for the Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology, as well as former president from 1988 to 1989. In 1994 Dan Gould was the First Australian Sport Psychology Scholar, and won the University of North Carolina Greensboro Alumni Teaching Excellence Award. He was elected fellow of the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education. Spring of 1999, Gould was a Hall of Fame Inductee for the National Association for Sport and Physical Education. Bank of American recognized Dan Gould as an Excellence Professor (Endowed Chair) at University of North Carolina Greensboro , 1999-2004. He was also honored by the American Psychological Association Division 47 Award for Distinguished Contributions to Education and Training in Sport and Exercise Psychology.
