NCAAHPERD-SM recognizes outstanding teaching and professional involvement by selecting and honoring teachers and/or professionals of the year in several categories. In some instances, those receiving such recognition advance to compete for similar honors in the SHAPE Southern District. If chosen for the Southern District award, the honoree competes for the national award, which is presented at the national SHAPE Convention.
Joint Projects refers to Jump Rope For Heart and Hoops For Heart. They are national events sponsored by the American Heart Association and the Society of Health and Physical Educators, America. Students in these programs have fun jumping rope and playing basketball — all while becoming empowered to improve their health and help other kids with heart health issues. Funds raised through Jump Rope For Heart and Hoops For Heart give back to children, communities, and schools through the American Heart Association’s work. Each year Joint Projects awards ten $400 grants to schools that participate in Jump Rope for Heart or Hoops for Heart. The grants are presented at the NCAAHPERD-SM Convention in November.
The Friends of NCAAHPERD-SM was established in 1989 to raise funds for worthwhile projects of the NCAAHPERD-SM membership. Each year Friends awards a number of grants to individuals or groups that propose worthy projects that promote the interests or vision of NCAAHPERD-SM. The grants are presented at the NCAAHPERD-SM Convention in November.
