2026 NC SHAPE Convention

This year's event will provide attendees with over 60 different breakout sessions presented by NC SHAPE Teachers of the Year in Health Education and Physical Education! 

Additionally, Our Special Guest Presenters Include:

* Will Potter (California): William Potter is one of our invited keynoters this year! He is a prominent elementary physical education teacher based in California. He is a Bay Area/San Francisco native and has been teaching PE since 2002. Will was SHAPE America's National Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year in 2020. He was also the CAHPERD (California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance) Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2019.

* Patrick Noel (Virginia): Patrick Noel is a veteran physical education teacher and works for Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), Virginia. He has been teaching for 19 years in the district (the largest in Virginia) and is known on social media as "Mr. TrickShot." His work has been featured in local news (e.g., WTOP, WJLA, FCPS district stories) and education podcasts for its positive impact on students’ mindset and engagement. He has mastered around 100 trick shots with the tagline: “Are you ready to fail?”

* James Gunther (Virginia): James Gunther is a veteran Adapted Physical Education Specialist based in Virginia. He currently works for Suffolk Public Schools, where he serves as an Adapted PE Specialist and Facilitator of Health/Physical Education. James was named the Virginia Adapted Physical Education Teacher of the Year in 2016 by VAHPERD and was also a finalist for National Adapted Physical Education Teacher of the Year 

* Kristin Stroupe (North Carolina): Kristin Stroupe teaches Middle School Physical Education at Durham Academy. She earned a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2006 (with highest distinction) where she pursued a double major in Exercise and Sport Science and Psychology.  She completed an M.A. in Biobehavioral Sciences from Columbia University. As a HS athlete, she excelled in cross-country and track (her relay team won a state championship and her cross-country team placed second at States). She continued competing in cross-country and track at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Agenda Overview:

  • Wednesday, December 2: This is our exhibitor set-up day, and our Annual NC SHAPE Awards Reception will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 PM.
  • Thursday, December 3: This is the first full day of exhibits, keynotes and breakout sessions.
  • Friday, December 4: This is the second full day of exhibits, keynotes and breakout sessions.
  • Saturday, December 5: The virtual portion of the convention begins at 5 pm on Saturday. 
    • Convention videos will become available on Whova, our convention app, beginning at 5 pm that day. Convention attendees can watch the 10+ posted videos through December to earn up to 2.0 CEUs. 
    • In other words, attendees can earn 1.0 CEUs in person on Thursday and Friday (10 sessions = 1.0 CEUs) and another 1.0 CEUs by watching 10 video-recorded sessions on Whova during December 2026.
