* Please Note: This event has limited capacity based on the number of dorms and rooms allocated to us this year.

  • Capacity is limited to 36 people
  • We have 8 rooms. Each room can accommodate 1-3 guests depending on the number per room; single, double or triple.
  • We have two dorms. One for females and one for males. Each dorm can accommodate up to 10 people.
  • Once we run out of space, you will be placed on a waiting list.

Background: The Spring Physical Education Leadership Training is an annual event sponsored by NC SHAPE. The Spring PELT is a professional non-profit organization representing the 3,000+ K-12 health and physical education teachers in the state. This event has a history of providing excellent professional development for more than 20+ years.

Class Meeting Information: This course meets over a three day period; May 13-15, 2022 at Trinity Conference Center in Pine Knoll Shores, North Carolina. A total of 12 contact hours (1.2 NC Renewal Credits) in Healthful Living Education Content will be given to participants.

Presenter Information: The six workshop presenters represent state, regional and national content area experts and include:

Course Outcomes: The learner outcomes of this course include the following –

  • Developing a greater understanding of the required K-12 Healthful Living Education Standards as approved by the North Carolina State Board of Education.
  • How to implement research-based practices for curriculum alignment (written-taught-tested) for elementary,middle and high school programs.
  • Learn about practical and up-to-date teaching strategies for all students, not just the physically gifted.
  • Implementation of cutting-edge teaching strategies for grades K-12.

NC Healthful Living Standard Course of Study: The intent of the North Carolina Healthful Living Standard Course of Study is to establish competency goals and objectives for the teaching and learning of behaviors that contribute to a healthful lifestyle and improved quality of life for all students.

Clarifying Objectives: Attention should also be given to ensure students experience a comprehensive sequential educational program that involves learning a variety of skills and concepts that are health-enhancing and encourage a physically active lifestyle.

Course Content & Agenda: The schedule as seen on the following pages aligns to both the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and the Clarifying Objectives as stated above. Special care was taken to ensure that the planning of this professional development opportunity was conducted by educational trainers with state, regional and/or national expertise.
