NCPEA Physical Education Distinguished Principal Award Nomination Form
Award Description: This award is presented to an outstanding school principal who demonstrates exceptional leadership and unwavering support for quality physical education. This award recognizes a principal who values the vital role of physical education in the development of the whole child - academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.
- Nominees can be principals or assistant principals at an elementary, middle, or high school level.
- Nominees should support the efforts of physical educators in accomplishing program goals and objectives.
- Membership in NC SHAPE is not required.
Award Criteria:
- Advocacy for Physical Education: Demonstrates consistent and visible support for physical education programs. Champions the importance of PE within the school.
- Commitment to Student Wellness: Promotes a school culture that values physical activity, health and overall student well-being.
- Support for Physical Education Staff & Professional Growth: Encourages professional development, innovation, and provides resources that strengthen the quality of physical education instruction.
- School-Wide Impact & Leadership: Leads initiatives that positively impact the entire school community and integrates physical education into the broader mission of school.
- Program Development & Support: Ensures PE programs are properly funded, equipped, and scheduled to maximize student success and participation.
Nomination Deadline: April 15 of each year.
Nominee's Application Requirements: Once the Recognition Committee chair receives the nomination, an email will be sent to the nominee with a link to the application form, where the required documents can be uploaded. All documents must be submitted in PDF format.
- Recommendation from a physical education teacher.
- A statement addressing the awards criteria listed above.
- A current professional vitae or resume.
Application Deadline: May 15 of each year.
