NC SHAPE is pleased to announce that the National Physical Education Institute is back at UNC Asheville for 2024!
Dates: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, July 24-26, 2024
Location: Sherrill Center/Kimmel Arena on the beautiful campus of the University of North Carolina – Asheville. 227 Campus Drive, Asheville, North Carolina 28804

Costs: Early bird registration is $325 for non-NC SHAPE members and $275 for NC SHAPE members. The price includes lunch for two days. This price is comparable and in line with the typical costs for other national events. Please note that you must be an NC SHAPE member when registering for the $50 discount.
3.0 Teacher Renewal Credits: Up to 3.0 CEUs (1 CEU = 10 Contact Hours) can be earned for this event.
1.2 CEUs (12 hours) for the in-person event on Thursday and Friday.
Plus 1.8 CEUs (18 hours) for watching the recorded sessions on the Whova App when you get home. These will be available for 30 days.
2024 Keynoters Include: NC SHAPE is pleased to announce the following Health & Physical Education experts and national leaders are booked to speak at this one-of-a-kind event.
- Joey Feith (@JoeyFeith) is the founder of ThePhysicalEducator.com. Since 2010, Joey has been helping K-12 physical educators elevate their teaching practice through innovative ideas, resources, and professional development experiences.
- LaDonda Porter (@lporterPE) is a former President of Kentucky SHAPE, a former Middle School PE TOY, and an OPEN National Trainer. She serves as her school's athletics director, girls’ track coach, and intramurals coordinator. “I have the best job in education,” Porter said.
- Kim Morton Cooke (@mortonmoves) is the "Health Guru" and has presented at numerous local, state, and national conferences. The designer of the “B3: Brain, Body, Behavior” program to help elementary students regulate their minds & emotions through movement activities.
- Chip Candy (@candypeguy) needs no introduction. Chip is a former National Middle School Physical Education TOY, an accomplished national presenter and is the recipient of the coveted Physical Education Institute's "5 Year" Pin.
Hotel Accommodations: Please note that we have secured approximately 200 rooms between the Embassy Suites (primary hotel) and the Double Tree (overflow). We anticipate a turn-away crowd.
- Once this happens, we will open up the Crowne Plaza as the third option. This is the hotel we have used in the past.
- In all cases, attendees will need to make arrangements to/from UNC Asheville. However, we will have a carpool sign-up via our Whova App.

DoubleTree: 199 Haywood, Asheville, NC 28801. (828) 505-8500. This is the sister property of the Embassy Suites and is right across the street from the Embassy. This includes breakfast. Parking will be discounted to $15/night as well.
Please note that to receive this $199/night rate, folks must stay Wednesday (July 24) and Thursday (July 25) nights.

Please note that individuals need to provide their own transportation to-from UNC Asheville. This is a change from what was offered in the past. Wednesday, July 24th: Embassy Suites - Asheville Hotel Check-in on your own. Please note there is a $15/day fee for parking. This has been reduced from $30/night for #PEInstitute24 attendees.
