2022 Student Majors of the Year

Background: Every North Carolina college/university is requested to nominate students to represent their institution as having demonstrated outstanding student leadership and future professional involvement in the following six categories:
  • Health majors or minors
  • Physical Education majors or minors
  • Dance majors or minors
  • Athletics/Coaching majors of minors
  • Adapted Physical Education majors or minors (Can be a graduate student)
  • Sport Management majors or minors
Each of your student nominees will be recognized at a special “Student Majors Awards Session.”

Criteria:

  1. Each applicant must attend a North Carolina college or university.
  2. The applicant must be an undergraduate student majoring in one of NC SHAPE allied as seen above with a proven leadership track record of the highest quality.  The exception will be for the Adapted PE Category as graduate students will be allowed to enter this category.
  3. The recipient must be a member of NC SHAPE.
  4. The recipient must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
  5. There will be 6 different categories:
    1. Health Student of the Year;
    2. PE Student of the Year;
    3. Sport Management Student of the Year;
    4. Dance Student of the Year;
    5. Adapted PE Student of the Year and
    6. Athletics Student of the Year.
  6. Each college or university can only submit one applicant per category. In other words, a student cannot be nominated to both the PE and Adapted PE categories.
Overall Winners and Outstanding NC SHAPE Future Professional of the Year: Additionally, your student(s) from the 6 categories listed above will be eligible to be selected as the Outstanding NC SHAPE Future Professional of the Year.

Application Documents: Please download the three documents as seen below. One is our Process Guidelines, one is the Nominee Cover Sheet and the last one is the guidelines for the required written narrative to be completed by your student(s).
 
 
(2) Guidelines for the Written Narrative to be provided to each of your campus representatives.
 
(3) Cover Sheet to be completed by your school Dean, Department Head or Program Coordinator.
 
 
The completion of these three items along with your student's Letters of Recommendation (maximum of 3) will be upload on the Submission Page.

When submitting award forms please:

  • Members: Please login to your account first.  Once you are logged in, click on the "New Submission" button near the bottom of the page

  • Non-Members: Click on "New Submission". The page will reload. To start your nomination, click on "register" near the bottom of the page. There is no fee or cost to register as a guest.

Nomination Deadline: May 1 of each year.
