Background: Every North Carolina college/university is requested to nominate students to represent their institution as having demonstrated outstanding student leadership and future professional involvement in the following five categories:
Health/PE majors or minors
Dance majors or minors
Athletics/Coaching majors of minors
Adapted Physical Education majors or minors (Can be a graduate student)
Sport Management majors or minors
Each of your student nominees will be recognized at a special “Student Majors Awards Session” to take place on Sunday, November 1st from 3:30 - 4:15 pm during the upcoming 2020 NC SHAPE Virtual State Convention.
Each applicant must attend a North Carolina college or university.
The applicant must be an undergraduate student majoring in one of NC SHAPE allied as seen above with a proven leadership track record of the highest quality. The exception will be for the Adapted PE Category as graduate students will be allowed to enter this category.
The recipient must be a member of NC SHAPE.
The recipient must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
There will be 5 different categories:
Health/PE Student Major of the Year;
Sport Management Student Major of the Year;
Dance Student Major of the Year;
Adapted PE Student Major of the Year and
Athletics Student Major of the Year.
Each college or university can only submit one applicant per category. In other words, a student cannot be nominated to both the Health/PE and Adapted PE categories.
Overall Winners and Outstanding NC SHAPE Future Professional of the Year: Additionally, your student(s) from the 5 categories listed above will be eligible to be selected as the NC SHAPE Student of the Year for the selected Major/Minor with one student of the five selected as the Outstanding NC SHAPE Future Professional of the Year. In other words, your student(s) will be eligible to be selected as the NC SHAPE Student of the Year for the selected Major/Minor with one individual from the 5 categories selected as the 2020 Outstanding NC SHAPE Future Professional of the Year!
Application Documents: Please download the three documents as seen below. One is our Process Guidelines, one is the Nominee Cover Sheet and the last one is the guidelines for the required written narrative to be completed by your student(s).
