by Donna Woolard, posted on September 20, 2020

Your NC SHAPE Board is hard at work preparing for the 2020 Virtual State Convention which will be held online Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, November 1-3.

  • Registration is OPEN! Use this link to register now!
  • The Alliance Associations are also finalizing the details for over 125 virtual sessions!
  • Zoom Meetings will be the main video conferencing software used by the hosts and presenters during all the convention sessions. However, to access the Zoom sessions, you will need a meeting link provided for participants in the Whova event app.
  • The Whova app is free and works with Android devices, iPhones, iPads, Macs, tablets, and Windows computers.
    • Please make sure to use the same e-mail address for registration and Whova in order to have a seamless conference experience!
  • The first draft of the convention schedule is posted here.
  • We have a new Speakers web page! Speakers will be able to post bios and photos prior to the start of the convention! You can check out an early version here.

Online Election and Referendum

The 2020 NC SHAPE Vice Presidential Election and Constitutional Referendum will be held during the 2020 Virtual Conference. The election and referendum begin Sunday, November 1st, and ends at 5 pm (Eastern Time) on Tuesday, November 2nd.

On Sunday, November 1st, an email message containing a unique ballot link with a random, secret access key will be emailed to current professional, retired, and honorary life members. The email will come directly from a secure online voting website called “ElectionBuddy”. The "From" name on emails to voters will be "ElectionBuddy Elections", not NC SHAPE.

To vote, members will click on a website link contained in the email message, access their ballot with their unique access key and enter their choices and submit their ballot. All votes are confidential and cannot be seen by others, including election administrators. A confirmation email is automatically sent to the voter once the voter submits their ballet. Election administrators may view the election results only after the election has ended.

Please be on the lookout for an email from elections@electionbuddy.com and cast your vote! Your opinion matters!

Charla Tedder (Parker) Krahnke is the Vice Presidential Candidate

NC SHAPE Nominations and Elections Committee completed its work nominating 3 people for the office of Vice President. However, two candidates withdrew their names from consideration. Therefore, Charla Tedder (Parker) Krahnke is the only candidate for NC SHAPE Vice President. NC SHAPE's vice-presidential election will therefore be a "Vote of Confirmation". Members will cast their ballots to confirm the candidate, reject the candidate, or abstain from voting.

The Electronic Referendum on Revisions to the Alliance Constitution

The NC SHAPE Board of Directors has proposed changes to the constitution. Current professional, retired, and honorary life members may cast votes in the referendum.

The following are proposed amendments to the constitution.

  • Removal of "Recreation" from descriptions of NC SHAPE throughout the constitution.
    • "Recreation" is not being removed from the organization's name.
    • The name of the organization shall remain the North Carolina Alliance for Athletics, Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Dance and Sport Management (NCAAHPERD-SM) and will continue doing business as NC SHAPE.
  • Article VIII: Amendments to the Constitution: The changes clarify the process for amending the constitution and specifies a timeline for notifying members of the proposed amendments.
    • The members shall be notified of the proposed amendment(s) to the constitution no later than thirty days before voting is to commence. The notice of proposed amendment(s) shall be deemed to be delivered when it has been sent to the membership via electronic mail and posted on the Alliance website.
    • Voting on the amendment may be held at any business meeting of the Alliance membership or by an electronic referendum.
    • An amendment shall be adopted if approved by two-thirds of the votes cast by qualified members as they are defined in the Alliance bylaws.

The proposed revisions to the constitution are posted here.
