Dr_Kacey_DiGiacinto.JPGMonday, June 29th @ 11:00 - 12:00 PM "Designing and Leading Successful Health Literacy Based Discussions."  REGISTRATION LINK Effective class discussions are the result of planning and preparation. We will discuss the planning process, different levels of questioning, setting clear expectations, techniques for drawing out responses, and assessment of class discussions. During this session, the presenter will demonstrate the Fishbowl Discussion to have participants think critically about health literature. Participants will learn how to keep the conversation going and to make sure everyone is heard. Techniques for assessing student discussions will be presented. Handouts including sample assessments will be provided.

Renewal Credit: .1 NC Teacher Renewal Credits will be provided for each completed session. Only individuals attending the LIVE EVENT will be eligible to receive Renewal Credit.

Your Presenter: Kacey Lynn DiGiacinto is a tenured, Associate Professor at Elizabeth City State University (ECSU). She is, also, the Interim Director for the Center for Teaching and Learning. Dr. DiGiacinto attended West Virginia University and earned her Bachelor of Arts in English (2005), Master of Arts in Secondary Education (2007), Master of Science in School Health Education (2009) and Doctor of Philosophy in Kinesiology in Physical Education Teacher Education (2010). Kacey is currently the 2019-2020 SHAPE America Southern District College/University Health Educator of the Year and the 2019 NCAAHPERD-SM College/University Health Education Teacher of the Year. In 2019, she earned the Follansbee, West Virginia Thanks for Shining Award. Dr. DiGiacinto served as the Kinesiology Program Coordinator for 3 years and the Physical Education Teaching Program Coordinator for 7 years.

Dr_Jen_Krause.jpgThursday, July 2nd @ 3:00 - 4:00 PM "Using Web-Based Assessment Tools in Health Education." There are many types of data that can be collected to determine students’ content knowledge, beliefs, and other information related to health education. These assessments can range from summative measures of student learning to formative checks for understanding or beliefs. Web-based quiz and survey tools can enhance the administration and evaluation of these assessments. This workshop will present a sample of online tools that can be used in many health education classroom formats, including face to face, synchronous online, or asynchronous online.

Your Presenter: Jennifer M. Krause, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Physical Education and Physical Activity Leadership in the School of Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Northern Colorado, where she serves as the Coordinator of the Physical Education K-12 Teaching Program. She holds a Ph.D. in Physical Education Pedagogy from the University of Virginia, a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction-Integrating Technology in Schools from George Mason University, and a B.S. in Health and Physical Education from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Jen has over 17 years of experience teaching health and physical education and coaching in K-12 and teacher preparation settings, and she currently teaches courses such as Physical Education Technology, Teaching and Assessing School Health, and Assessment in Sport Pedagogy. Her major line of research explores Technological, Pedagogical, and Content Knowledge (TPACK) preparation in physical education/teacher education. Jen has been awarded the SHAPE Colorado University Teacher of the Year Award and recently co-authored a new textbook, Technology for Physical Educators, Health Educators, and Coaches.
