The Hooks / Blackburn Young Professional Award provides the means through which the North Carolina Alliance recognizes young professionals who have demonstrated outstanding potential for teaching, scholarly productivity, and professional service.
Qualifications of candidates for the Hooks Award
Candidates shall be at most 39 years of age on November 1 of the year the award is presented.
Candidates shall have held membership continuously in NC SHAPE for at least three years, including the current year.
Candidates shall have earned at least a master's degree in one of NC SHAPE's allied fields or National Board Certification.
Candidates shall be currently employed in North Carolina in one of NC SHAPE's allied fields.
Candidates shall have demonstrated outstanding potential in at least two of the following areas: teaching, scholarly productivity, and professional service, as reflected by publications, awards, or other recognition for achievement in teaching, coaching, performing or administration.
Candidates should be persons of professional integrity who exemplify the spirit of service to the professions and who have, by their leadership, made a significant contribution to the advancement of the allied fields of NC SHAPE.
Nominator Responsibilities: The nominator is responsible for filling out the nomination form completely and in time for the nominee to complete the application by the May 1 deadline.
Nominee Responsibilities: The nominee is responsible for keeping their NC SHAPE membership current and preparing a 1-page curriculum vita and a 250-word written statement highlighting their teaching, scholarly productivity, and professional service, as reflected by publications, awards, or other recognition for achievement in teaching, coaching, performing or administration.
Verify NC SHAPE Membership: Log into the NC SHAPE website to verify your membership is in good standing when nominated and receiving the award.
Curriculum Vita: Prepare a 1-page curriculum vita highlighting your teaching, scholarly productivity, and professional service, as reflected by publications, awards, or other recognition for achievement in teaching, coaching, performing or administration.
Written Statement: Compose a 250-word statement summarizing your teaching, scholarly productivity, and professional service and explaining your qualifications for this award.
Complete an Application and Upload the Application Documents: Once the Recognition Committee chair receives the nomination, an email will be sent to the nominee with a link to the application form where the 1-page vita and written statement can be uploaded.
The nominee must submit all required documents by May 1.
