2022 Edgar W. Hooks Jr. - Robert Reid Blackburn Young Professional Award

This award provides the means through which the North Carolina Alliance recognizes young professionals who have demonstrated outstanding potential for teaching, scholarly productivity, and professional service.

Qualifications of candidates for the Hooks Award

  • Candidates shall not be more than 39 years of age on November 1 of the year in which the award is presented.
  • Candidates shall have held membership continuously in NC SHAPE for at least three years, including the current year.
  • Candidates shall have earned at least a master's degree in one of NC SHAPE's allied fields or have earned National Board Certification.
  • Candidates shall be currently employed in North Carolina in one of NC SHAPE's allied fields.
  • Candidates shall have demonstrated outstanding potential in at least two of the following areas: teaching, scholarly productivity, and professional service, as reflected by publications, awards, or other recognition for achievement in teaching, coaching, performing or administration.
  • Candidates should be persons of professional integrity who exemplify the spirit of service to the professions and who have by their leadership made a significant contribution to the advancement of the allied fields of NC SHAPE.

Responsibilities:

  1. Nominator Responsibilities: The nominator is responsible for collecting and uploading all application materials before the submission deadline.

  2. Nominee Responsibilities: The nominee is responsible for keeping their NC SHAPE membership current and preparing a 1 page curriculum vita highlighting their teaching, scholarly productivity, and professional service, as reflected by publications, awards, or other recognition for achievement in teaching, coaching, performing or administration. The nominee must get the application materials to the nominator in time to meet the submission deadline.

Instructions:

  1. Verify NC SHAPE Membership: The nominator should ask the intended individual if they are an NC SHAPE member before nominating the individual. The nominator should inform the nominee that they must be a member when receiving this award at the Annual State Convention.

  2. Upload: Curriculum Vita: The nominee shall a prepare a 1 page curriculum vita highlighting their teaching, scholarly productivity, and professional service, as reflected by publications, awards, or other recognition for achievement in teaching, coaching, performing or administration.

  • Non-Members- Click on "New Submission". The page will reload. To start your nomination, click on "register" near the bottom of the page. There is no fee or cost to register as a guest.
